This brand new publication (first published in September 2025 in Italian and November 2025 in English) direct from the Shrine of St. Pio in San Giovanni Rotondo recounts in detail the story of Padre Pio’s vision of the building of the “Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza”, (Home for the Relief of Suffering) and the ultimate realisation in its opening on 5th May 1956. The “casa” is a well-known, private scientific research hospital located in San Giovanni Rotondo, Italy, founded by Saint Pio of Pietrelcina (Padre Pio), and inaugurated in 1956, and this year 2026 celebrates the 70th Anniversary of its Opening.
All proceeds from the sale of this publication will go directly to the Hospital Cancer Research Fund.
This publication is an intriguing story, steeped in the reality of the building challenges of the 1940’s and 1950’s Italy, comprising both biography and autobiography, on what was truly one of the most remarkable achievements in the History of San Giovanni Rotondo.
